School Council
Our School Council is a team dedicated to listening to everyone so that our school community is a place where each person feels happy and cared for. We meet together twice a half term and we have been recognised as being very effective in contributing to the running of the school.
The objectives of our School Council Team link closely to the British Values which are developed throughout school in order to allow our pupils to develop and demonstrate skills and attitudes that will allow them to participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain.
Our aims are:
- Give pupils the right to say what they think
- Listen to and consider suggestions made by pupils
- Allow pupils to present new initiatives and ideas
- Allow pupils to talk about what is important to them
- Help the school Senior Leadership Team and governors understand what is important to the children
- Find out and share what matters and give information to everyone in school
- Help make our school the very best it can be.
This year, the school council has organised a number of events including:
School Council organised a fundraising day for the Calderdale Flood Relief Appeal, we all joined in ‘Can you run a mile and beat a teacher?’ The day was fabulous and as a school, we raised a whopping £1200!
School Council organise three events throughout the year to help our local charity, Smart Move, who assist homeless and vulnerably housed people to find accommodation. Presents from Christmas, food for Harvest and the donation of Easter Eggs have made a huge difference to many families.
School Council meet with the governors on a termly basis to ensure that Governors have the opportunity to listen to our pupils. Through these meetings we have become involved in:
- Promotion of attendance
- Early Bird week (promoting punctuality)
- Educational Visits
- Subject specific teaching in Key Stage 2
- Use of the Sports Premium
School Council also have an important role to play in the recruitment of new staff, including showing possible candidates around school and also taking part in pupil interviews.
